THIS WEEKEND – APRIL 20 & 21
We will hold a normal practice schedule thisweekend, April 20 & 21st. Advanced sailors will have full day practice both Saturday and Sunday. Intermediate sailors will sail a full day Saturday and half day on Sunday 12:30-3:30PM.
Saturday, April 20 starting at 4:30PM the Lauderdale Yacht Club will perform the Change of Command Ceremony where Club members will salute this year’s incoming Commodore. All junior sailors are encouraged to participate in the FLEET REVIEW. Optimists, Lasers, and 420 sailors can join the parade of LYC boats to sail past the Club’s main dock and salute our new Commodore Lang Ryder.
The Commodore’s Cup Series award presentation will begin promptly at 5:30PM on the Club’s East Lawn. Parent’s of sailors who will receive awards have been contacted and informed of dress code and the detailed Change of Command schedule.
ON THE HORIZON
 – APRIL 27 & 28
Intermediate and Commodores sailors will follow a regular practice schedule.
Check for more detailed posts regarding the Team Trials travel schedule. Advanced sailors participating in Team Trials will need to load their boats on the LYC truck and trailer before Thursday, April 25. The rig will depart LYC on Friday, April 26. As the Team Trials sailors will be migrating north that weekend, there will be no Advanced practice that Saturday and Sunday.
-MAY 5th
To cheer for the recovery of one of our top junior sailors and support his campaign against Leukemia, LYC is proud to host the Chris Williford Second Wind Regatta on May 5th. This match racingesque event will be held right off the Club’s East lawn and is open to plethora of boat classes. This event will just as much fun to watch as it will be to sail! We are encouraging all junior and adult sailors to participate!

- JUNE 8-9
Many have expressed interest in attending the School's Out regatta at the Davis Island YC in June. We will consider supporting this event if a critical mass of sailors are interested in attending. A g.doc has been created to field interest. Let us know if you want to attend!

SUMMER SAILING!
What can my sailor do this summer?
We are looking forward to our Fun Sailing Camps beginning June 10th! The summer sailing program is a great opportunity for your young sailor to receive quality instruction in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. The camp is designed for novice, beginner sailors. So bring your friends that don’t know how to sail and let them experience the joy of sailing.
The SKIPPER’S course is geared toward Commodore’s Fleet sailors. The class will focus on intermediate race technique mixed with fun games and activities to keep your sailors skills sharp, but also light-hearted and fun.
The Summer Sailing Schedule:

  • Session 1: June 10-June 21
  • Session 2: June 24- July 3
  • Session 3: July 15- July 26
  • Session 4: July 29- August 9

“What about my sailor who’s needs to train for USODA Nationals?”
We have scheduled four Advanced Opti clinics to prep your advanced/intermediate racer for the competitive summer regattas we’ll be supporting.
  • ·         May 30-June 2 (Thursday and Friday HALFDAYS (3:30-7PM) / Saturday and Sunday FULLDAYS )
  • ·         June 6- June 9th FULL DAY
  • ·         June 17- June 20 FULL DAY
  • ·         June 24- June 27 FULL DAY

Sailors who sign up are expected to bring their full attention to these intense clinics. Sailors should be ready each morning for a strenuous, full day of sailing and fitness conditioning. Sailors will be given homework, consisting of articles and fitness workouts to develop as both intellectual and endurance athletes. Sign up on the google doc.
Summer USODA Regattas!
LYC is looking forward to two events this summer: USODA Nationals July 6-14 in Grosse Point, Michigan & USODA New England’s August 5-7 in Portland, Maine. Sign up on the google doc for these events. Green fleets sailors interested in these regatta should talk to Juan or Phil before making plans.
USODA Nationals Team Race teams need to be finalized. We have discovered a conflict of regatta dates that will affect many of our sailors who qualify for international teams at the Team Trials regatta in Wisconsin. Any sailor who qualifies and chooses to participate in the IOD North Americans, IOD Europeans, IOD Worlds, or the Topsport Regatta will not be able race in the team race and (possibly) fleet race portion of USODA Nationals.
What we need is a firm commitment from all sailors interested in participating in Team Race nationals. Any sailor who commits will be expected to race with their assigned team. Sailors who qualify for international teams at Team Trials will be exempt from team race commitments. Please sign up on the google doc for Team Race Nationals before MAY 5th. LYC teams will be finalize as soon as USODA releases the international team lists after team trials (May 11th), to give sailors ample time to practice together before Nationals. Parent's be sure to open the "USODA Selection Process for 2013 Int'l Teams" doc available under "Program Docs" header for more detailed information regarding international team's sign up, deadlines, and budgets.
