2014 USODA Team Trials
May 1st – 4th – Stamford Yacht Club, CT

I just want to let you all know about our Team Trials experience…definitely the most important regatta of the year and an international US qualifier for some of the top intercontinental Championships in the World such as Worlds, Europeans, North Americans among others.  These sailors were extended an invitation to participate at this event based on their performance/placing at USODA Regional events.

Two hundred seventeen sailors attended this year Team Trials!  This event definitely gathers the best sailors and most competitive fleet in the US.

We scheduled three on-site practice days (Mon-Wed) prior to racing.  So, some of our LYC Team sailors flew up to practice before the event started on Thursday.  It turned into a very long week for our team, but it was well worth it since the wind conditions on the Long Island Sound were very variable and the current played a very important factor when developing a strategy.  The wind velocity ranged from 4 to 26kts with a predominant SW winds…being the last day of racing our windiest day and our first day definitely the lightest. We saw some heavy rain during the practice days and air temperatures ranging from 42F to mid-60F.

Our LYC Team Members results after 9 races with one discard: Connor Murphy (30), Stephen Streater (31), Luke Welker (80), Bella Casaretto (100), Garrett Dixon (109), Kelly Clark (146), Joey Meagher (167), and Eddie Holden (183).

Overall it was a great racing experience for all!  In the next couple of weeks USODA will extend invitations to sailors that qualified to represent the US at the international events.  Thanks to all you parents for the continuous support and for making of this event a smooth one.  I will keep you all posted…hopefully we will have some LYC sailors joining some of these US Teams.

Look forward to seeing you all out on the water this weekend!

Cheers,

Juan
