Fall 2014 Calendar

The Fall 2014 Opti calendar is now updated and can be found on the right column of the blog or click on the full calendar tab at the top. We will review the calendar in much more detail along with several other items at our preseason meeting scheduled for August 28th.

On the calendar you will find early registration deadlines for the upcoming regattas (I will add deadlines for events later in the season when they become available). There are 3 fall series race days scheduled and we plan to host joint practices with other local clubs. Also please mark your calendar that our Winter Banquet date will be on December 4th.

I am really excited for the fall program to begin! I feel positive about this season and I look forward to sharing it with you.

Congratulations LYC Sailors !!!

Congratulations to all of our LYC Opti sailors who competed at the 2014 USODA National Championship at California Yacht Club this past week!

We are very proud of Bella Casaretto  who was 2nd place in Gold fleet. She competed in a fleet of 228 sailors. She beat several sailors on the world team. You can see the results here.

LYC Sailing Fall 2014 *Important Dates*

The Fall 2014 Opti Sailing registration is now available!The form can be found here.


The Opti Parent Preseason Meeting is on August 28th at 5:30pm-6:30pm. Everyone will have the opportunity to meet our new coach and we will review general program information and structure, the practice schedule and the fall calendar.

We will have our first practice on Saturday, August 30th:

Silver and Gold Fleet practice will be from 9:30-4:30pm

Green Fleet will have a boat work day from 9:30am-12pm. At this time we will be assigning club sails and hulls.
Green Fleet will have practice on Saturday (only this weekend) from 1pm-4:30pm

There will be no practice on Sunday August 31st.

The following week will be the normal practice schedule:

Wednesday(Sept 3rd): Silver and Gold Practice 3:30pm-6:30pm
Thursday(Sept 4th): Green Fleet Practice 3:30pm-6:30pm

Silver and Gold will practice from 9:30-4:30 on Saturday (Sept 6th) and Sunday (Sept 7th).
Green Fleet will practice from 1:30pm-4:30pm on Sunday (Sept 7th).

New Englands Early Registration Deadline & Friday Fun Racing Tomorrow!

Sailors headed west- I wish you all the best of luck at Nationals! Please send us pictures!

Two things-

1.) The Early Registration Deadline for New Englands is  Saturday July 19th. Save some $ by registering now.

Register online at  http://www.usoda.org/ .

2.) Friday Fun Racing is tomorrow evening! Let me know if you would like to reserve a boat. Be here by 4pm to rig. Please call the office if the weather is bad. I will be making a decision by 3pm as to whether racing is cancelled.

NOTICE OF REGATTA

2014 YOU GOTTA REGATTA

Date &Time                   Saturday, August 9th, 2014                    10:00 AM-2:00 PM

Location:                        All land activities will be on the Lauderdale Yacht Club’s east lawn. All water activity will be in the cove between the Intracoastal Waterway and LYC.

Entry Fee:                      There is a $5 entry fee for participating in the on water activities. For burgers, dogs, and beverages there is a fee of $16 for adults and $8 for children.

Registration:                  Sign up online here.

 

Governing Body:             The races will be governed by the current Racing Rules of Sailing (2013-2016) and the Sailing Instructions of this event that will be available at sign in.

Conditions of Entry:        Each sailor must properly register and sign the Entry Form.

Class:                                 Optimist

Schedule:                          1000 - 1045          Registration, LYC Sailing Center (upstairs classroom)

                                           1100                       Skippers' meeting

                                    1130                       Harbor start (high tide at 7:14 am; low tide at 1:31 pm)

                                   1135                       Warning gun, 1^st race of the day (other races to follow)

 

                                           1300 (approx)       Cookout to follow

                                     1330 (approx)       Awards Ceremony and Information Session, Q & A

Scoring:                           Low Point Scoring System will apply; a five race regatta is planned; one race constitutes a regatta

Sailing Instructions:         Available at registration

Awards:                             Goofy prizes, water toys, and games

Other:                                This regatta is all about having fun!

Directions:                      From I-95 north or south or I-75 south to I-595 east.  Go east to US 1 north. US 1 north to SE 17^th Street. Go right.  SE 17^th Street to the 2^nd light, Cordova Road.  Go left.  Cordova Road to 12^th Street.  Go right.  LYC is at end of street. Activities will be on the Club’s East Lawn, near the Flagpole.
