Change of Command & Commodores Cup Awards

Sailing Community,

Saturday April 12th is the Change of Command at Lauderdale Yacht Club. This will be my first Change of Command ceremony so I have been asking around how things were done in the past.

We will have a normal practice on 4/12. At 4:15pm the Optimists will set up north canal (tie to floating dock or rigged and ready to launch) for the fleet review. Green fleet arrive around 3:45 to rig boats-do not block floating ramp if lasers are not in yet. The fleet review is where boats line up and salute the Commodore. When it is our turn, we will join in on the fleet review. If conditions are too windy then we will have green fleet on the 22' whaler and have silver and gold fleet sail . If no wind then we may tow Optis through the review. It is entirely condition dependent. I will make the call at 3:30 as to what we will do.

The Commodore Cup trophies will be awarded to the top 3 finishes.Awards will be given out after the fleet review during awards ceremony 5:30 on the east lawn. The dress is semi-formal. All sailors are required to wear formal attire. I asked Commodore Ryder what he would like for dress and he said blazer and tie for boys and dresses for girls.

Hospice Regatta

Dear Opti parents,

As you may have heard, LYC is hosting the 4th annual Hospice by the Sea Regatta and the first ever Hospice Youth Regatta on May 17th.
Bret Moss, Bob Meagher and myself have been coordinating with the Hospice group to make this a successful event.
Now it is time to recruit some of you to help on the day.  We need people for registration, launch and recovery and race committee. If you would like to help please go to the sign up sheet on the blog.

Here again is the web site to enter your sailor for this event. You will have to print out the entry and mail it to the address on the bottom of the form. We would love to see 100% LYC participation for this inaugural event, plus it's helping to contribute toward a good cause.

There is also a Fundraising Challenge to help raise funds for Hospice by the Sea. If you are interested in making a donation, here is the link www.hpbcf.org/regatta_challenge

If you have any questions or suggestions, don't hesitate to call or email me.

Thanks

Spring Fling Regatta at CRYC (April 5-6)

Dear Opti Families,

The Spring Fling Regatta at the Coral Reef Yacht Club in Coconut Grove is coming up this weekend April 5-6.  This event is open to all our LYC Opti Fleets (Gold, Silver & Commodores).  If you are interested in signing up your sailors please do so by filling out your information on our blog under the 'Upcoming Regatta' folder and click here for registering at the Coral Reef Yacht Club site.

We are expecting a full trailer so please don't forget to sign up on our blog so we can assign you a trailer spot if need boat/gear transportation to and from the event.

As it is right now (participation list), we will have coach Juan for Gold & Silver on the championship course and Kyle Pond to cover the green fleet course.  This means we will need 2-4 volunteers to tow our coach boats down to CRYC and back.  Please let us know of your availability to tow a coach boat so we can count on you and plan accordingly.

Please let me know if you have any questions, you can email me at sailing@lyc.org or give me a call on my cell (410)212.5303

Looking forward to a great regatta and to see you all this weekend!

Cheers,

Juan
PS. Since this is an LYC supported event there will be no regular Opti weekend practices (April 5-6) out of our club.
